My name is Ruth Burman-De Souza and I am founder of Lizardgems. I am from Coventry, West Midlands, UK and I studied BA Interior Design at Falmouth University, Cornwall, UK. Living by the beach was truly amazing and this is where my business began.
Lizardgems was born in Falmouth, Cornwall, UK in the summer of 2017, I would often collect seaglass from the local beaches. I began experimenting with wire to create pendants for necklaces and soon after I bought my first drill. My techniques developed and grew alongside my portfolio of jewellery.
Since graduating from Falmouth University in 2017 I have worked in a shop, hotel and restaurant to help fund my jewellery making business. I left Falmouth in April 2018 to move back to my hometown of Coventry in order to develop my business further. After moving, I took part in a Prince's Trust workshop, where I gained essential skills to run my own business. Therefore I am a Prince's Trust supported business.
It is not only jewellery that I create but also graphical prints of animals to enhance my portfolio of work, but never losing sight of my origins and ethics. All work is handmade by me, inspired by nature.
